A staircase is the one piece of metalwork in a building that everyone touches every day. We treat it as structure and as furniture at the same time.
Stringers are cut from plate or channel to the surveyed floor-to-floor dimension, with riser and going set to a comfortable, consistent rhythm rather than to whatever is left over. Treads can be chequer plate, concrete-filled pan, hardwood or glass.
Because we fabricate the balustrade at the same time and in the same shop, the rail follows the flight cleanly through the winder and the landing — the transition where site-assembled stairs usually give themselves away.
